Language Lab

Meet Maestra Tricia

I am from Los Angeles, CA raised in Durango, Mexico. I worked as Family Center Director and Paraprofessional for eight years with LAUSD. I moved to the bay area to get my BA in Hispanic Literature and a minor in Chicano Studies from UC Berkeley. When I graduated from CAL I had the opportunity to joined Roses in Concrete Community School team as substitute teacher and the following year became the Spanish first grade teacher. For the last four years I have been part of our wonderful Oakland Academy of Knowledge educators. When I am not at school I like to spend time with my two boys and traveling. I also love to dance, the outdoors, attending music festivals, visiting museums, and spending time with friends.

What do you do at OAK?

I am currently the Spanish Language Lab teacher. I am proud to teach my native language and my culture to all our students through art, music, games, food, and festivities in an atmosphere where everyone feels engaged in the learning of the Spanish language.

What do you enjoy the most about OAK?

The community we have been building with students, families, faculty and staff.
